{"id":14260,"date":"2025-09-12T17:40:25","date_gmt":"2025-09-12T21:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valuecare.wpgamma.com\/?p=14260"},"modified":"2025-09-12T17:40:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T21:40:25","slug":"suicide-warning-issued-for-young-paxil-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valuecare.wpgamma.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/12\/suicide-warning-issued-for-young-paxil-users\/","title":{"rendered":"Suicide warning issued for young Paxil users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The\u00a0<a href=\"\/remedies-treatments\/mindsoothe-depression-remedy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antidepressant<\/a>\u00a0Paxil may raise the risk of suicidal behavior in young adults, GlaxoSmithKline and the Food and Drug Administration warned Friday in a letter to doctors.<\/p>\n<p>The warning letter was accompanied by changes to the labeling of both Paxil and Paxil CR, a controlled-release version of the drug, also called paroxetine.<\/p>\n<p>A recent analysis of clinical trial data on nearly 15,000 patients treated with both Paxil and dummy pills revealed a higher frequency of suicidal behavior in young adults treated with the drug, according to the letter.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA reported that there were 11 suicide attempts \u2014 none resulting in death \u2014 among the patients who received Paxil in the trials. Just one of the dummy pill patients attempted suicide.<\/p>\n<p>Given that small number, the results \u201cshould be interpreted with caution,\u201d the FDA said. Eight of the 11 attempts were made by patients between the ages of 18 and 30. All trial patients suffered from psychiatric disorders, including major\u00a0<a href=\"\/remedies-treatments\/mindsoothe-depression-remedy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Depression<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>GlaxoSmithKline released its findings after the FDA asked\u00a0<a href=\"\/remedies-treatments\/mindsoothe-depression-remedy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antidepressant<\/a>\u00a0manufacturers examine their clinical trial data for any links between the drugs and suicide in adults, company spokeswoman Mary Anne Rhyne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt some point, the FDA is going to say what their analysis shows across the category,\u201d Rhyne said, adding of her company\u2019s own analysis: \u201cWe felt like this was information we wanted to share with physicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the letter to doctors, Dr. John E.
