(More on causes and risk factors)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infections in women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Women are more prone to UTI\u2019s, probably because they have shorter urethras which therefore pass bacteria into the urinary tract more easily.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics show that one woman in five will develop a UTI during her lifetime. Some women are prone to recurring infections.<\/p>\n<p>Women who have had more than three UTI\u2019s are likely to continue to develop recurrences within 18 months of a UTI. In severe cases this can be even more frequent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infections in men<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Men are not as prone to UTI\u2019s as women, but infections are still common.
