{"id":19397,"date":"2025-09-16T14:55:03","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T18:55:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/valuecare.wpgamma.com\/?p=19397"},"modified":"2025-09-16T14:55:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T18:55:03","slug":"quarter-say-cancer-down-to-fate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/valuecare.wpgamma.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/quarter-say-cancer-down-to-fate\/","title":{"rendered":"Quarter Say Cancer \u2018Down to Fate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"spoiler\">\n<p>Over a quarter of people believe that fate will determine whether they get cancer, a survey says.<\/p>\n<p>More women than men thought destiny would determine their chances \u2013 and smokers were 50% more likely than non-smokers to believe in it.<\/p>\n<p>The poll of 4,000 people was carried out by the charity Cancer Research UK.<\/p>\n<p>Those responding were asked if they thought they could cut their risk of developing cancer \u2013 or whether it was out of their hands.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 27% of the people questioned said fate ruled whether they would be affected by the disease.<\/p>\n<p>Among those from the most deprived areas, the figure rose to 43% and among those from the most privileged areas, it fell to 14%.<\/p>\n<p>Smoking and\u00a0<a href=\"\/recommends\/EcoSlim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">obesity<\/a>\u00a0are linked to an increased cancer risk.<\/p>\n<p>But the survey also found 34% of smokers and 36% of over 65s believed that getting cancer was down to fate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over a quarter of people believe that fate will determine whether they get cancer, a survey says.
