The incidence of these illnesses continues to rise as the stress levels rise and the nutritional value of what we eat declines.

In fact, in some pre-illness retrospective diet studies of people who experience the symptoms of Crohns disease the researchers found that these people generally ate more sugar and less raw fruit and vegetables than did people who didnt develop Crohns disease. This supports the saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Having low stomach acid Crohns disease may seem logical since Crohns and the pain that results from it, are a consequence of the inflammation that occurs in the large and small intestines. This inflammation can cause obstruction in the intestines, fistulas, ulcers, malnutrition and other health problems. It would seem logical that if you took away the increased stomach acid that the irritation in the intestines would decrease and therefore decrease the pain and the side effects of the disease.

Most physicians understand that the health of the stomach rules the intestines and the health of both the small and large colon. In the case of Crohns disease and Ulcerative Colitis there appears to be a lower gastric activity than normal which is confirmed through medical testing. So, in fact, the opposite is true. The lower the amount of stomach acid that your body produces the higher risk you are for developing inflammation in the lower intestines and colon. This inflammation can take the form of Crohns disease, inflammatory bowel disease, Ulcerative colitis, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

One of the reasons that we have lowered stomach acid production, and therefore are at higher risk for inflammatory bowel illnesses and over growth of bacteria in the gut, is our diet. Our bodies are designed to digest foods through enzymatic activity. Our bodies manufacture some enzymes and we get the rest from out foods. But, because many peoples diets consist mainly of meat and sugars the digestive process has become more fermentative. This is indicated by the disturbance of bacterial flora in feces and the changes in stomach acid production.

With the diagnosis of Crohns disease it is advisable to reduce or eliminate your consumption of meat and dairy products. This will help to decrease the inflammation and increase the production of stomach acid. Low stomach acid Crohns disease is a risk factor that can be controlled through nutritious well-balanced meals and a decrease in denatured, processed foods.

Other factors that produce low stomach acid is advanced age. While the age of your stomach cant be manipulated you can improve your diet to give your stomach and body a fighting chance to heal itself. Medications and steroids are helpful in the short term to bring the illness under control but only by changing your internal environment will you have a chance to improve your chances of healing and pain free days.

Enrich your life and the lives of others by learning Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Color/Crystal Therapy at the Alternative Healing Academy! Convenient and easy-to-handle payment plans are available!

Crohns disease is one of several of the inflammatory bowel diseases that affect both adults and children.
