I mentioned in an earlier blog that I will soon be doing a series of blog articles exposing some of the \u2018tricks\u2019 pharmaceutical companies get up to in order to boost their \u2018bottom lines\u2019.\ufffd Part of this series will also give you cause to rethink the reliability of the \u2018gold standard\u2019 double blind placebo trials that the company\u2019s hang their \u2018hats\u2019 on. Anyway, I thought I should share a bit of information with you about a petition organized earlier this year to counter a citizen\u2019s petition lodged by a pharmaceutical firm Medicure Pharma to the FDA. The objective of this petition is to ban the active form of Vitamin\u00a0B6<\/a>\u00a0called pyridoxal-5\u2032-phosphate. The reason submitted by Medicure Pharma? I quote: \u201cPharmaceutical companies developing new drugs must be protected from companies that may seek to market the ingredients in those drugs as dietary\u00a0supplements<\/a>\u2026\u201d \u201cThe marketing of such products has the potential to undermine the incentive for the development of new drugs because many people may choose to purchase the supplements rather than the drugs.\u201d The reality is that this form of Vitamin\u00a0B6<\/a>\u00a0is the natural form and has been available in food since we humans first walked the earth. I accept that it is not common in\u00a0supplements<\/a>\u00a0because it is much more expensive than the \u2018normal\u2019 form of\u00a0B6<\/a>, but we have been using it for years as it is MUCH more effective. The body has to convert the common form of Vitamin\u00a0B6<\/a>\u00a0(pyridoxine) to the active form pyridoxal-5\u2032-phosphate.<\/p>\n
